Ericsson announces 1,500 job cuts in Sweden

Ericsson is to cut 1,500 jobs in Sweden, the company announced this week. Officials from the Telecom giant said that the move is being made to help reduce costs. The cuts are expected to affect employees across all sectors of the business, including sales, research and development, supply and service delivery, and general administration.

Sweden’s Ericsson inks huge deal with US-based Sprint

Sweden’s massive communications company, Ericsson, has signed a deal with Sprint Nextel to take over the day-to-day management of the US telecom network. The 7-year contract is worth up to US$5 billion, and positions Ericsson strategically within the competitive US mobile provider industry.

Ericsson suffers drop in profits

The Swedish mobile phone giant, Ericsson, has suffered a 30 percent drop in its first quarter net profits compared to the same period in 2008. The world’s leading supplier of mobile phone network equipment is still managing to beat the gloomy predictions of market analysts, however.

Ericsson to lay off 5,000 despite posting profit

Despite the fact that it posted a surprisingly strong profit in the fourth quarter of 2008, Sweden’s telecom company Ericsson announced it was planning to terminate 5,000 jobs, 1,000 of which will be in Sweden. The rest of the 4,000 layoffs will affect Ericsson’s other business sites around the world.
