The rate of inflation in Iceland dropped by a further 0.9 percent in January according to Statistics Iceland. The 12-month rate has therefore fallen from 2.5 to 1.8 percent.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has voted to lower Central Bank interest rates by 0.5 percentage points. The deposit rate (current account rate) will be 7.0%, and the maximum bid rate for 28-day certificates of deposit (CDs) will be 8.25%. The seven-day collateral lending rate will be 8.5% and the overnight lending rate 10.0%.

The Norwegian Central Bank announced last week that it would not be making any changes to the key policy rate. The Executive Board agreed to maintain the 1.75 percent level that was approved at a previous meeting in December last year.
