Old Kaupthing bosses demand their wages

Sigurdur Einarsson, the former chairman of the board at Old Kaupthing has put in a claim for lost wages to the bank’s resolution committee amounting to ISK 244 million (USD 1.9 million). No claim has been received from former bank president Hreidar Mar Sugurdsson, however.

Two Icelandic companies go bankrupt in unusual fashion

Debts in the bankrupt estates of two companies owned by the lawyer Bjorn Thorri Viktorsson in Reykjavik amount to ISK 140 million (over USD 1 million). The companies changed name shortly before going bankrupt.

This June, 95 Icelandic companies filed for bankruptcy compared to 92 in June 2008, according to Statistics Iceland; a year-to-year increase of around three percent.

Straumur initiates work on a debt restructuring plan together with its creditors

PRESS RELEASE FROM STRAUMUR BURDARAS BANK: On 19 March, 2009 Straumur Burdaras Investment Bank hf. (Straumur) requested an authorisation for a moratorium process from the District Court of Reykjavík. The process would enable Straumur to facilitate a financial and operational restructuring in co-operation with the bank’s creditors.
