A recovery team in Greenland is attempting to evacuate and repatriate three servicemen who are thought to have been entombed in a glacier since their plane crashed in WWII. The Coastguard has commissioned a private squad in an attempt to find and finally remove the J2F-4 Grumman Duck biplane from the ice. Read the full story

A Danish officer says the military has been sitting on pictures showing the abuse of Afghani prisoners by American soldiers for five years. According to reports on the information provided to the Parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee by defence minister Gitte Lillelund-Bech, the senior army official said he viewed the “Abu Ghraib-like” images on a CD in 2005. A game of cops and robbers became a little too authentic for two Danish teenagers this week, after armed police turned their fantasy into reality. The Christmas period has seen troops from Norway involved in several battles across northern Afghanistan, with the Maimana Norwegian field hospital admitting injured Afghan fighters as the insurgency continues. Fighting broke out again between a group of Finnish and Swedish soldiers and insurgents in Sar-i-Pol in Afghanistan on Monday around 16.00 (GMT). There were about 20 soldiers of a mixed Finnish and Swedish patrol in the conflict. Shooting went on for about 30 minutes, according to Finnish news source Helsingin Sanomat. Read the full story
