The annual rate of inflation in Iceland has dropped to 8.6 percent in November, compared to 9.7 percent in October. This is the lowest it has been since autumn 2007; but still a long way from the Central Bank of Iceland’s targeted 2.5 percent. Read the full story

During the school year 2007-2008, 3,588 students graduated from high school and a further 3,611 at higher level education in Iceland. Statistics Iceland (Hagstofa Islands) reported that since the beginning of data collection back in 1995, there have never before been so many students graduating in just one school year. According to information released by Statistics Iceland (Hagstofa Islands), there were 555 Icelandic companies declared bankrupt in the first 8 months of 2009, but in the first 8 months of 2008 there were just 470 companies declared bankrupt. The CPI based on prices in July 2009 is 345.1 points (May 1988=100), 0.17% higher than in the previous month. The CPI less housing cost is 323.9 points, 0.56% higher than in June. The increase is lower than prediced by the IMF and Islandsbanki, but slightly higher than Landsbanki predicted. Read the full story

The expected rapid decrease in Iceland’s high rate of consumer price inflation appears to be continuing.
After peaking in January at a year-on-year rate of 18.6 percent, it reduced to 17.6 percent in February and 15.2 percent this month. Read the full story

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Iceland rose by 0.86% between August and September, representing a drop in annual inflation from 14.5% to 14.0%, Statistics Iceland revealed yesterday.
Analysts had expected an increase of 14.2% in September, after a record rise of 14.5% in August. The drop was the first decline in the annual inflation rate since January 2008.
