The parliamentary group of Iceland’s Left Green Movement will meet this afternoon upon their leader, Steingrimur J. Sigfusson’s return home from the IMF annual meeting in Turkey. Ogmundur Jonasson, Iceland’s Minister for Health resigned his position earlier today in a meeting with Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir. He says he cannot put his weight behind the Icesave deal as the government is requiring its ministers to do. He does not, however, wish for his actions to destroy the coalition. Read the full story

Iceland’s Social Democrats and Left Green Movement began talks yesterday on the formation of a new government following both parties’ strong showing in Saturday’s elections.
Together the parties hold 34 seats in the 63-seat Althingi parliament, meaning a comfortable majority. Despite this, the Independence Party are actually the second largest party in parliament with 16 MPs – two more than the Left Greens. Read the full story
