A Ukrainian captain who ran his ship aground in southwest Sweden has been sentenced to one month in prison for aggravated drunkenness at sea. According to news agency TT, however, Andrey Sharafonenko, 44, who was found guilty by a district court in Malmo on Monday, will be let off with the 17 days he has already served. Read the full story

For the first time in Sweden’s long history, marine archaeologists have uncovered the wreck of a Viking ship lying in the mud at the bottom of Sweden’s biggest lake. The Swedish coastguard had a group of 50 scuba divers surveying Lake Vanern’s bottom, when they stumbled across the 20-metre long wreck. Read the full story
