The online editions of virtually every Swedish News media are reporting that General Motors will shut down all Saab Automobile operations.
GM announced today that the planned sale of Saab Automobile to Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker will not come through and that they will begin shutting down the legendary Swedish car manufacturer for good. Read the full story

It’s not a good time to be a car dealer in Sweden. The lingering economic recession affected consumer car sales to the tune of a 13.9 percent drop in new car registrations in July, year-on-year. The total of 14,512 new car registrations in July represents a 25 per cent fewer car sales compared to last year. Read the full story

The bankrupt US carmaker, General Motors has signed a preliminary agreement with the Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg to purchase Saab. All three companies involved have confirmed the tentative sale, which is expected to be sealed by the end of the third fiscal quarter. Read the full story

The struggling Swedish automotive producer Saab is up for sale, and three bidders from different countries have emerged as the most likely winners in the race. Three Swedish peace activists from the group Avrusta (Disarm), whose mission is to stop Sweden from exporting weapons, have been sentenced to prison for their attempt to destroy three warplanes in March. According to Sveriges Radio (SR), the would-be saboteurs were given between four and six months in jail and ordered to pay Saab 150,000 kronor in damages. Read the full story

A report in the Swedish business press has disclosed that Sweden’s government is prepared to give a series of loans and loan guarantees worth billions of kronor to slumping Swedish carmakers Saab and Volvo.
