With many pre-voting polls showing that Denmark will be getting a new coalition government in the next national election, this may well mark the end of legal prostitution in the country. A high-ranking prison guard, hardcore convicts, a biker gang and prostitutes were just some of the elements involved in Denmark’s latest prison scandal. Copenhagen’s Vestre Faengel prison was the site of the drama, where an experienced guard has been accused of accepting bribes from biker inmates in return for letting them have unfettered access to mobile phones in their cells. Now in its fifth day of operation, a new law in Norway makes it a criminal act to pay for sexual favours both within the country and outside it if you’re a Norwegian citizen. Based partly on a similar law instituted by Sweden in 1999, it is expected to greatly reduce the number of prostitutes currently working the streets of Oslo. Read the full story

Norway has gambled on catching more human traffickers by implementing a new law to help their victims. The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion gave instructions to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) to provide qualifying victims with residence permits to stay in Norway. Read the full story
