Reykjavik, Iceland Today at 11:00 GMT, the Icelandic Parliament voted on the Icesave deal. 62 Members of Parliament took part in the vote. The end result is that they have approved the Icesave deal. Some parliament members decided to voice their reason behind their vote before they initiated their vote. The following is a list of which members of parliament voted and how they voted. A group of people broke away from the crowd of protesters this afternoon and tried to break into the Parliament building. Two police officers stopped the small group from entering. Drumming and whistling could be heard from the protesters inside the Parliament. Read the full story

Finland’s parliament is proposing a new gun law that would grant police the right to search and inspect people’s homes without a search warrant, Finnish news source Sunnuntaisuomalainen reported. The gun law proposal would let police search private property and homes without suspecting any crime. The gun law will also restrict licenses to members of shooting clubs. Read the full story

There is an increasing number of parliament members in Iceland deciding against the Icesave-agreement, according to the news source Bloomberg. 34 members are currently expected to vote against the proposition. Last month, a straw poll indicated that 33 members out of 63 would be against. In an interview with Bloomberg, Minister of Finance Steingrimur J. Sigufsson said that he is not panicking over the vote.

The Lithuanian Parliament unanimously approved and gave full support for Iceland’s membership application to join the European Union today as well as encouraging other member states to approve the application. The Lithuanian Parliament decided this was especially essential due to the fact that Iceland was the first nation to recognize Lithuania’s independence. Read the full story
