Steingrimur J. Sigfusson, Icelandic Minister of Finance says he has submitted new bills on innovation to the Althingi parliament. If the Minister gets his way, innovation companies will be able to benefit from tax breaks and investors will be able to subtract shares in innovation businesses from their taxable income. The total package could be worth as much as ISK 1.5 billion to innovation companies each year. Read the full story

The Asbru Innovation Centre – the knowledge and entrepreneurial community being formed at the old NATO airbase next to Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport – will host a new international health services centre. Around 300 people attended the yearly open meeting of the Icelandic Innovation Centre, held this week at Reykjavik’s Hilton Hotel. Discussion at the meeting focused on the Centre’s actions since the banking collapse last October. A press release from the organisation explains that the Innovation Centre’s quick reaction to the financial crisis garnered a lot of foreign media attention, leading to several stories on “the Icelandic way out of the crisis”, mbl.is reports.
