Water levels in the Gigjukvisl river in south Iceland, close to Grimsvotn volcano, have risen by about 40 cm since last night. River flow measured 1659 cubic metres just before 18:00 yesterday evening and this morning’s measurements show that the river flow is currently more than 2000 cubic metres. Read the full story

Flooding began in the Gigjukvisl river in the south of Iceland yesterday afternoon after a small earthquake occurred at the Grimsvotn volcano in Vatnajokull. Gunnar Sigurdsson, a Hydrographic specialist working for the Icelandic Met Office (Vedurstofa Islands), told mbl.is that it may take 4-5 days for the flooding to reach a peak. Read the full story

The Asbru Enterprise Park, Iceland, is to host ‘the most important aviation conference in 2010’ between 12-15 September. The conference, organised by the Keilir Aviation Academy, is set to address the issues faced from the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption and its effects on aviation.

The Keilir Aviation Academy has announced an international conference on how the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption in Iceland affected aviation, of which resulted in global flight disruptions. The conference, to be held at Keflavik International Airport, will be “to discuss the lessons learned and how technology, rules, regulations and aviation training must be improved,” as stated by Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland and Patron of the Conference.
