Actavis, a generic drugs manufacturer based in Iceland, has received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration to market the generic breast cancer drug, Epirubicin Hydrochloride Injection, in the United States.
The drug will be Actavis’ second oncology drug introduced to the US this year.
Epirubicin Hydrochloride Injection, the generic to Pfizer’s Ellence, is prescribed to patients with evidence of axillary node tumours following resection of primary breast cancer.

Iceland-based generic drugs manufacturer Actavis announced this week it has sold a product portfolio of seven established brands on the Polish market to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, an Indian company hoping to increase its presence in eastern and central Europe.
The sale took effect on 1st July, but neither company revealed the amount of money paid. The portfolio of seven products includes the antidepressant Cital and Lamotrix, which is used to treat epilepsy.
Actavis undertook the deal in collaboration with Biovena, its Polish subsidiary, in a bid to streamline the generic drug company‘s activities in Poland.
Actavis has acquired more than 20 companies in recent years, which it is now integrating into its existing product portfolio.
Actavis is one of the leading generic drugs manufacturers in the world, with operations in 40 countries and 11,000 employees.
