As Finland’s top three political parties suffered losses in the recent European elections, the country’s nationalistic True Finns party captured their first European parliament seat ever. Having secured more than seven percent of Sweden’s votes in the recent European Parliament elections, the country’s file sharing advocacy group, the Pirate Party, is heading to Brussels to make its voice heard among EU policy makers. Jonas Abel Mellado has put himself forward for the third or fourth seat of the Social Democrats in North Iceland for the upcoming election. Jonas is a 22 year-old assistant at a Bonus supermarket in Akureyri.

The 16th protest meeting organised by the Voice of the People group took place outside the Icelandic parliament in Reykjavik this afternoon with an estimated 5,000 participants.
The protesters gathered, as usual, to protest the handling of the economic crisis in Iceland and to call for the resignations of the government and the boards of the central bank and the financial supervisory authority. Read the full story
