The two finalists of a sauna endurance competition in Finland, one of which was killed and another who is still in hospital, were allowed to take part without doctors’ certificates, according to reports. Terhi Makiniemi, deputy chief of staff at the City of Heinola – where the Sauna World Championships were held early this month – told newspaper Ita-Hame that all contestants submitted medical certificates except the two finalists. Three people have been arrested in Finland on suspicion of trafficking an extremely strong narcotic that has killed two people in Kuopio. Police in North Savo have seized a quantity of fentanyl, which is dozens of times stronger than heroine, and last week claimed the lives of two young adults in the central Finnish city. One man has died and another was hospitalised after just six minutes enduring temperatures of 110°C in the finals of the World Sauna Championships in Heinola, Finland. Some death certificates are taking more than a year to be released in Finland due to a shortage of forensic doctors. Although the law demands that official documents should be available within three months of a death, a lack of practitioners trained to perform autopsies in the country has left next of kin, the police and insurance companies waiting for months on end.
