Iceland Ring Road reopened to traffic

The Iceland Ring Road was reopened to traffic again over the weekend, following the completion of a new bridge over Mulakvisl river. The road across Myrdalssandur in South Iceland was closed after a glacial flood from Myrdalsjokull glacier swept the bridge away.

The reconstruction of the 156 metre long bridge was expected to take up to two weeks; however, authories worked hard in order to reopen Iceland’s highway 1, restoring the bridge in just 7 days.
