Figures released this week suggest that the number of tourists visiting Iceland is increasing.
The number of foreign guests leaving the country in the month of February this year jumped by 12.5 percent compared to the same month last year. Some 23,000 foreigners travelled out of Iceland, which is an increase of 2,500. For a passenger to leave Iceland it is assumed, of course, that they also arrived there at some point.
It was the British who topped the list again — accounting for 31 percent of all foreign guests. The number of British in Iceland was up by 1,000 on February 2010.
The number of visitors from North America and Central and Southern Europe also increased appreciably between years, RUV reported.
Since the beginning of the year 45,000 foreign travellers have departed from Iceland, which amounts to a 15 percent increase from last year.
The number of Icelandic citizens flying or sailing out of the country also increased in February by 15 percent year-on-year and stood at 19,600 departures.
