Icelandic PM on official Faroe Islands state visit

Icelandic Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir is on an official visit to the Faroe Islands; but her visit is not without controversy.

The leader of the Christian Centre Party in the Faroe Islands, Jenis af Rana, has said he will not attend an official dinner at the Faroese Prime Minister’s residence.

af Rana and his party have been strong opponents of gay rights in the Faroe Islands and he told Vogaprotalinn that Sigurdardottir’s official visit with her wife Joninia Leosdottir is a direct provocation and her lifestyle runs counter to the teachings of the bible. He said he would not even consider attending the dinner.

Meanwhile, other leaders including Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen have criticised af Rana and said he should be ashamed of himself. Hoegni Hoydal, chairman of the Republican Party, pointed out that Iceland is the only country to treat Faroese leaders as true equals, including official state visits. The relationship between the two countries should be nurtured by all parties, he believes.

AV RANA: his soul and sentiments are a provocation. His life should be revolting; his words smell rotten. He should be ashamed of himself.

And he is a bad mannered!

    Greetings from Spain!
