World’s biggest sailing ship on way to Iceland

The world’s biggest sailing ship is currently on its way to Iceland, according to Russian news website, Ria Novosti. The ship is called Sedov and is a three-masted barque.

Sedov left Amsterdam yesterday after a four day stopover as part of its summer-long tour of European ports.

The ship has been causing a stir everywhere it goes – including in Scandinavia, where several concerts were held on board. 103 students from the Russian seafarers’ school are on board the ship.

RUV reports that it is not known exactly when the boat will arrive in Iceland, as that will largely depend on wind and weather.

Sedov was built in Germany in 1921, but came into the possession of the Russian (Soviet) government in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War.
