Visir.is reports that Icelandic unemployment was at 7.6 percent in June, which is a 6.4 percent proportional reduction since May.
The reduction in unemployment is proportionally greater outside of the Reykjavik region, with 8.5 percent of the capital’s workforce out of work compared with 5.9 percent elsewhere in Iceland. The highest unemployment is still in the Sudurnes region of the southwest, with 12 percent unemployment. The rate is lowest in the northwest region (not to be confused with the Westfjords) at just 2.6 percent.
It is predicted the downward trend will continue and 7.5 percent national unemployment looks likely for July.
