Sigur Ros wins Outstanding Contribution to Music Award

sigur-ros-littleThe Icelandic band Sigur Ros has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the Mojo Awards in London.

The band turned up to the ceremony to receive their award, which was presented by Radiohead star, Philip Selway.

Phil Alexander, Mojo’s Editor-in-Chief, said: “Sigur Ros are widely recognised as men of mystery. Their enigmatic presence is matched by their music. Having a member of Radiohead, Philip Selway, present this award tells you just how much fellow musicians love them. They are like a latter day Pink Floyd – transporting and epic. And their contribution to music can be heard and felt everywhere.”

Sigur Ros are no longer together, as Jonsi is successfully promoting his solo career and other band members are taking extended paternity leaves. However, the band never formally split up, they remain close friends and a musical reunion is considered likely some time in the future.

Sigur Ros were among 20 prizewinners at the Mojo Awards, with winners from across the musical spectrum, both old and brand new. Other winners included Kasabian, the Stone Roses and Jimmy Page.
