Biggest contract tenders since Icelandic banking crash

workLandsvirkjun, the national power company of Iceland, yesterday published advertisements for three construction projects at the Budarhalsvirkjun power station.

They are for the construction of the powerhouse, water intake infrastructure and the outflow tunnels, which will be four kilometres long.

The projects are expected to take three years and be ready by autumn 2013. The new power hydro station will generate 80 megawatts and most of that power will go towards increased production at the existing Straumsvik aluminium smelter, operated by Alcan.
