Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs Ossur Skarphedinsson told media last night that Iceland criticises Israel’s deadly attack on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla much more harshly than many other nations.
The Icelandic parliament’s foreign affairs committee held an emergency meeting on the issue earlier in the evening. Members of the Iceland-Palestine Association were invited to the meeting for the first time in the association’s 23 year history and the Minister Skarphedinsson also attended. Skarphedinsson said afterwards that Israel’s crime against the citizens of the Gaza Strip was “shameful”.
The parliamentary committee will meet again today and Iceland’s national parliament will hold an unscheduled debate on the Israeli attack this morning, RUV reports.

concerning the meeting of foreign affairs and the members of iceland-plastine assoc
Why the minister didn’t invite also members of iceland-israel assoc. to this meeting
to be fair, there is always 2 sides to the story. iceland declars its neutrality, is it only a declaration to show how human they are?
what about humanity for israelies?
who supports the right of the israeli to live peacfully among all the arab nations?
Is the world blinde?
is it not clear that the arab world goal is to get rid of israel as a nation?
shame on you
Sinking humanitarian ships on its way to aid Gaza, the worlds largest prison, isn’t in defense of “Israel”. “Israel” is committing horrible war crimes against the Palestinians, Lebanese, and threatening Iran. When international attention comes to “Israel”, then “Israel” asks USA for help and reminds the community of how much you suffered during World War II and say “We need to defend our people. Look, rockets!! Rockets come to “Israel”". You have had your side all the time, now its time for the oppressed to speak up! (edited by moderator)
Icelandic arrogance as usual. If anyone would take 20 seconds to see the video of the comando’s being attacked before even landing on the ship they’d know it was all orchestrated. What humanitarian, peaceful workers carry a selection of flash and stun grenades.
There were several options to have the supplies delivered over land but denied. Anyone with even a spec of intellectual honesty can see the common and predictable thin veneer of pro Palestinian propaganda from the miserable terrorist illegitimate squatting clan of the Palestinians.
Iceland really has no place to be pointing moral or ethical fingers on the world stage. They don’t and haven’t treated the Polish much better than they “claim” the Palestinians have been treated by Israel.

This was clearly a provocation by the pro-palestinian interest groups and their terrorist friends. Any self-respecting nation must protect its borders, and we should fully support the Israelis in their right to do so. Foreign Minister´s position is one-sided, and he has always been known for anti-Israeli (antisemitic?) actions. It is time to look at the facts and be honest about this incident, and the Icelandic Parliament should do just that without taking sides before apriori.
Typical anti-semetic European. What else is new. The entire routine is growing tiresome. Israel is put between a rock and a hard place. Reacts the same as any military would (perhaps difficult for the Iceland FM to appreciate because his country relies on others for its defense).
Where’s the condemnation of any number of horrors an order of magnitude greater then the “peace flotilla” (Orwell would be proud) ?
How about some phony outrage on this recent gem: the Muslim suicide bombers who murdered Ahmadi Muslims in mosques in Pakistan on Friday.
A bit off topic but doesn’t the Minister for Foreign Affairs look like an elf ? Isn’t this the same douche that thought Clinton would mediate the Icesave dispute.
The Megaphone-directed-rent-a-mob are here I see? (Megaphone is a Israeli propaganda service that points to critical web discussions so that the message can be spread by the fans)..
Israel’s ‘right to exist in piece? It has the same right to exist as the German Reich Polish conquests and the same legitimacy – none. Stealing land and banishing the losers is not legitimate.
“Icelandic arrogance as usual. If anyone would take 20 seconds to see the video of the comando’s being attacked before even landing on the ship they’d know it was all orchestrated.”
Fits well with arrogance of people who believe they can steal anything they like. Attacking a ship in international waters is piracy, they are perfectly entitled to defend themselves against hijacking terrorists who attempt to board a civilian ship.
There is a clear explanation of Israel’s actions – they attacked the ships, murdered the passengers and hijacked the remainder.
How more clear can get it get? Israel is a criminal, terrorist state. Not for the first time, previous Israeli Presidents have been wanted for terrorism. In 1947 they bombed the Palistine Hotel. 1965 they attacked a US Navy Ship. During the Lebanese occupation they shelled a UN compound and slaughtered over a hundred women in children (their fault, naturally).
The list of Israel’s war crimes is unending. Isreal has started how many wars? Evil, evil Iran, since the revolution, has started … none.
LOL!!!
“what about humanity for israelies?
who supports the right of the israeli to live peacfully among all the arab nations?”
“Members of the Iceland-Palestine Association were invited to the meeting for the first time in the association’s 23 year history and the Minister Skarphedinsson also attended”
What happened to the other attacks of Israel that were more violent than this one? o yeah!! it did not suit their political agenda then but now it does to call an ” emergency” . What a BS!!
DONT WAIT UNTIL IS TOO LATE!!!! Deprogram your selfs!!!
the aid ships knew the israelies had set up an exclusion zone, so why didn’t they take a british or american naval escort with them, i’m afraid the israelies are people who believe in action first then talk, egypt has opened up its crossing to allow aid into the country, america and britain don’t hesitate to send troops to iraq or afghanistan. with so much talk about the plight of the palestinian people, who’s going to help them?
recommendation for Icelandic government. Or how you say in Icelandic

The IDF video claiming that soldiers were savagely attacked is a total fake.
And that is easily verifiable.
The camera angle would be impossible from the small Israeli patrol boats at the scene.
The ship shown in the IDF video is very different from the genuine AID ship
The location of the ships funnel is completely different;
The location of the ships radar dome is completely different.
The ship was attacked in darkness
The IDF video was filmed in daylight
The contrast and brigntness were raised to simulate infrared photography but it’s a poor simulation for anyone who knows the difference. Infrared photography has almost no halftones.
Whereas the IDF film is full of halftones.
Compare the the video of the supposed violence with the heicopter video, (which is genuine infrared video) there is no comparison.
“The IDF video claiming that soldiers were savagely attacked is a total fake. ”
Israel has a long history of fabricating and faking, passports videos, it also has a lot of image processing expertise. Remember, its army and government was formed from a terrorist organisation and even today they use car bombs at a weapon.
Besides the fact that its perfectly legal to defend your ship against pirates intent on murder and hijack.
The aid ship was sailing in iternational waters, what the israelis did was piracy, of course israel has never respected any international laws as we have seen time after time, cluster bombs, fosfor bombs, attacs on schools, UN buildings, mass murder of defenceless people etc,
i wonder if israel will want other nations to respect international laws if they find themselves fighting a war against one or more nations in the future.

This
Minister Skarphedinsson
I was deeply disturbed to find that Iceland too, through your ministry, has joined the long list of hypocrites in condemning the actions of the one country on this earth that appears not to have the basic right to protect its citizens.
I find it appalling that of all the troubles on this earth, the Icelandic parliament’s foreign affairs committee finds the time for an emergency meeting to support the attempt of a well known terrorist group (the Turkish IHH), actively supporting HAMAS, Hizb’Allah and El-Qayida to break a blockade put in place to somewhat limit the incessant flow of weapons to the HAMAS dominated Gaza area.
Had the flotilla truly been about aiding Gaza, all non military materials could and would have been transported through Israel (which apparently unbeknownst to the Minister, has continuously provided Gaza with food, medicine, electricity and drinking water (as well as other required resources), sources of which were repeatedly attacked by HAMAS and other militant groups using the weapons that they somehow “manage” to import by the thousand, despite the blockade).
Since the flotilla was solely about breaking the blockade, thus enabling Iran to directly supply HAMAS with weapons and missiles (as it has done in Lebanon, in direct breach of UNSC resolution 1701 banning weapons supplies to Hizb’Allah), there is no way that any sane nation could allow it to proceed.
It is also obvious that some passengers of the flotilla flag ship were in no way “peace activists” as can be seen by their behavior when the vessel was boarded.
I would strongly recommend that the Allthing and the foreign affairs committee make better use of their time rather than wasting it debating condemnation of the only nation in the world dealing with Islamist terrorism on a daily basis.
I sincerely hope that the Minister and the committee will take the time to actually learn the facts of the issues at hand before making any additional “particularly harsh criticisms”.
As per the repeated claims of “piracy” in international waters, some basic knowledge of international law is required.
When a marine blockade is instated (and a marine blockade is a very legal and often used act in a war), the nation instating the blockade is allowed, after prior warning, to board any vessel trying to break the blockade.
And yes, for those of you claiming that the situation in Gaza in not an International Armed Conflict as per the San Remo accords – in that case, Gaza is under Israeli rule and as such Israel is allowed to block its ports. You can’t have it both ways, sory.
I do have several questions to ask, especially for Peter.
Does the Jewish nation have the right to self determination, and if so, where? In Poland, perhaps?
Does Peter feel the same way (not kicking out the losers) about the 50% of what is currently Poland that was torn from the German Reich after it lost the war and the 12 million Germans that were forcibly expelled (cleansed) in the aftermath?
Does it seem resonable to anyone that the only refugees remaining from the aftermath of WWII are the Arabs of the British Mandate that for some reason could not be resettled an hour’s drive from their previous homes?
Does it seem reasonable that the Arab nations (all 22 of them) could not find it in their hearts to assimilate 700000 of their cousins (same language, same religion, same culture and in many cases actually blood relatives), especially after they cleansed their own countries of a more than equivalent number of Jews (which were successfully, albeit slowly and painfully assimilated by the 650000 Jews living on the 20% of British “Palestine” that was under their control in 1949)?
Could not the Arabs settle for the 80% of Palestine that they had retained after the 1948 war?
Are they willing to reach an agreement on a two state solution dividing the land today?
Were the Arabs willing to grant the “right of return” to the Jewish settlers that they had evicted from their privately owned land (those they didn’t murder after they had surrendered)?
Are you aware that some Arab countries still ban people of the Jewish faith to enter the country, and others from owning any property?
Get the facts people, they may open your eyes.
I agree with Mikizo.
The poor Palestinians who did not flee from Israel in 1948 to help the other Arab nations in their war against Israel are living now as Israeli citizens with welfare and health care and rights.
The Palestinians of the west bank will reach their state , in contrary to Gaza-Hamas regime.
They do get humanitarian help through the border of Israel as well as electricity from Israel and their sick children are getting medical care for free in Israel for complications.
Hamas wants to wipe Israel from the earth and gets support of Iran.
Why is Israel denied its right to controle supplies to its enemy?
Yhe goods are sent then to Gaza.
The terrorists misused peace activists on the flottila but were armed with cold weapons.
Only those were killed and the peace-activists were in 24 hours back to their state/
Iran Hezbolla and Hamas are laughing at the western naivity like that of the stupid icelandic reaction to the flottila.
The dead people were a present to their evil propaganda against Israel.
The hate against Israel all over the world reminds one of other dark and irrational evil hatred, like those of the thirties.
A shame on Iceland!
Some of you need to check the trials of Norman Finkelstein.
“Stop the crocodile tears” for those crying
That freakin’ hypocrite pictured looks like a leprechaun. Next “aid” ship. I’d sink it.
