Joke political party set to whitewash Reykjavik election?

reykjavik1The Best Party, a joke/protest party set up in advance of Iceland’s upcoming local elections, is now the most popular party in Reykjavik and would get six councillors elected if voting was today, according to a new opinion poll.

According to the MMR poll which was conducted on behalf of the Independence Party, the Best Party enjoys the support or around 36 percent of voters in the Icelandic capital, which would give them six councillors. The Independence Party has around 36 percent support and five councillors. The Social Democrats received 18 percent support, allowing three councillors and the Left Greens would get one councillor for their 11 percent support.

The Progressive Party are predicted to receive three percent of votes in Reykjavik and all others under one percent combined.

Around 16 percent of respondents said they are still undecided, Visir.is reports.

The top six candidates for the Best Party, who would all get elected if this opinion poll proves correct, are Jon Gnarr, actor and comedian; Einar Orn Benediktsson, musician; Ottar Proppe, musician; Elsa Yeoman, Karl Sigurdsson and Eva Einarsdottir. After them on the list come Magnus Hjaltason, architect, and Margret Kristin Blondal, musician.

According to the same opinion poll, 70 percent of Reykjavik residents believe current mayor of Reykjavik, Hanna Birna Kristjansdottir has done quite well or very well in her role.

LOL!! on the puppet role, indeed she did.

The amazing thing about this poll is that so many Icelanders still think the Independence party is worth voting for.

Must be something in the water.

As much as I hate to say it, but I am afraid that the history of icelanic polls before elections are not worth the paper they are printed on… Polls in Iceland change daily, sometimes within the hour. We have seen this time and time again.
Also, to say in apoll we would viote for a joke-party does not mean that in the actual election they will vorte for this. usually people go than abck to whatever they are sued to vote for.
this is why still so many peolæe vote for the Inependance party and the other “regular” parties, which have in my opinion failed us all. they all were sitting in the parliament during the times of the build up to the crisis, they all did not ask the rigth quesiotns or looked behind the scenes. they all did not fullfill there role as control-instrument for the governemtn. All of them. Big chunk of these parliament-actors have been even part of the governemtn-coalition in the last years, also in the wake of the crisis, and some are even still Ministers in the current governemtn 8and prime-Minsister!). So, don’t follow polls for icelandic elections. ther will be no majority for a Joke-party, my prediciotn…somewhat between 3-6%…

The UK has the Monster Raving Loony Party.

I well remember hearing a spokesman on the radio after they had amazingly won a seat in a local government election. The serious BBC man asked him:

“And what does this success mean for your party?”

    to which he replied

    “We’ve lost all credibility!”

  5. Simon says:

Wouldnt be the first time a joke party gets elected in Reykjavik :P

  6. Axel says:

The Best party has 36% of votes according to the latest polls, some people call them clowns, but the other parties are no better,
at least the best party has not been making all kinds of serious promises that everyone knows will not be kept,
opposed to what many people think, the Best party is the only bulls*t free party available to voters,
the trust in Icelandic politics has been abused so badly and for so long that its dead,
The Best party will take the city by a landslide, and its the only party that deserves a vote.
