Icelandair changes flight times to accommodate ash

icelandair-littleIcelandair has announced it is to change flights tomorrow to accommodate the possible closure of Keflavik International Airport due to volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajokull. The status of flights to and from the UK remains uncertain.

Icelandair departures to Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, London, Manchester/Glasgow, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris tomorrow morning have all been moved to 05.00. The FI212 midday flight to Copenhagen has been moved forward to 09.00.

Further information is available on www.icelandair.com and passengers are advised to check the site regularly. The changes to the Icelandair schedule are a precautionary measure only, and Keflavik Airport is not guaranteed to close.

  1. Will the ash be accommodated in Economy class or Saga class?

Great idea by Icelandair to “accomodate ash”! However, I’ve read a typical airliner’s engines can accomodate only 80kg of ash during a flight, and need extensive maintenance after this. So it will take some time to accomodate the whole cloud…

I expect a new “ash class” for the volcano stuff as well as UK and Dutch officials!

Saga class of course. Economy class only gets non-alcoholic beverages for free!

All joking aside, Icelandair always goes above and beyond the normal when it comes to getting flights out. Most other airlines just cancel flights!
