Icelandair prepares for closure of Keflavik Airport with new flight plan

IcelandairIcelandair has announced its new flight plan for the next 48 hours in response to the closure of Keflavik International Airport in Iceland. The Icelandic airline company has been working hard to find alternative flight plans as it finds itself in a similar situation that many other airlines throughout Europe have already experienced over the past week.

Icelandair flights that were scheduled to take place on Saturday 24th April and Sunday 25th April will now be flying out of Glasgow International Airport in Scotland. Icelandair will be flying transatlantic flights to New York and Boston and also European flights to Copenhagen, Oslo, Amsterdam and London. In addition to this, there will also be two flights a day from Glasgow to Akureyri in the north of Iceland.

Passengers are however still warned that changes to flight schedules could occur at short notice due to the unpredictability of the situation. Icelandair encourages passengers to monitor news and information about flight schedules, arrivals and departures via www.icelandair.com. Furthermore, Icelandair’s services will be open all weekend ready to help passengers with any additional enquires.

Over the past few days, Icelandair has been working to make alternative arrangements in preparation for the closure of Keflavik International Airport, due to ash fall in the surrounding area from the volcano in Eyjafjallajokull. The preparations have been focused on keeping operations going, keeping a flight path between Iceland and the rest of the world and also to provide great customer service. Crew, technicians, managers and client services have already been moved to Glasgow and will be employed there for as long as is required.
