A tax fraud case brought against Jon Asgeir Johannesson, Tryggvi Jonsson, Kristin Johannesdottir, Baugur Group and the Gaumur investment company has hit a snag with the defendants claiming a sort of ‘double jeopardy’.
Jon Asgeir and his fellow accused have called for the case to be dismissed on the grounds that it is not possible to be punished more than once for the same crime. Jon Asgeir believes the current proceedings are closely related to the so-called Baugur Case in which he and others were charged.
The state prosecutor working with the financial crimes department does not agree with this viewpoint and made his opinion known this morning when the case was taken to the Reykjavik District Court. The court subsequently decided to reconvene on 27th April when it will be decided whether the case should be thrown out or if it is eligible to go to trial.
In separate news from DV, it is reported that the resolution committee of Glitnir Bank has claimed ISK 6 billion (USD 46.5 million) personally from Jon Asgeir Johannesson, Palmi Haraldsson and Larus Welding (who was President of Glitnir), as well as three board members of the old bank.

you need to put these guyes in jail for a long time to show future genaration that crime dose not pay in the long run, they help to bancrupt they’r own country due to they’r greed, that is descasting and they can’t get away with that…
I can’t believe they enjoyed the best things in life at the suffering and expense of unborn children, aged, disabled, sick and all unfortunate hardworking citizens like me. Others could not even get a loan without a collateral or guarrantor.
The real facts of the case should be differentiated and identified as to the commissdion. It may be fraud but on several instances or collusion, maladministration, or whatever, but letting them go free is an insult to the intelligence of the majority.

This makes good sense. Because it puts pressure on prosecutor — that has all powers of state behind them — to get it right first time, and not keep on trying again, and again pulling the people through the courts again and again and again..
However if case can be made of other wrongs done that just come to light then it is one to bring forward.
Ólafur Thor and other procecutors who are investigating whole thing ( with guidance of Eva Joly ) and the foreign ( French and Norwegian ) specialist working on this seem to be trusted to do right thing.
As Eva Joly said, it can take years to build cases, and then only the worst offenders should be gone after , but always showing that justice is done in a fair and impartial process. So it is done and seen to be done ( the jsutice ).
As to our politicians and burecrats, get ready for the Black Report..
