Iceland banking crisis investigator eyeing finish line

olafur-thor-littleOlafur Thor Hauksson, Iceland’s Special Prosecutor looking into the banking crisis, believes his team will complete its first investigations before the end of the month.

Hauksson said when the first stage is completed decisions can then be made about prosecutions. He said that the different issues being investigated are all at different stages and would not be drawn on which cases have come the farthest.

“We are set to close some cases this month, but that is only very provisional,” Hauksson told Visir.is. He added that all too often, prosecutors are at the end of a case and then suddenly find they need more time. But the information available today suggests that the end of April is a fair target, Hauksson says.

This is a very good news from Olafur Thor Hauksson, Icelands Special Prosecutor but why provisional? Questionable ? If the facts are sufficient then it is very good, but if otherwise, it will be insufficiency of evidence and dissmissal of the case or no case at all even with the commission of the crime as in the collapsed of the banks. By the way, where are the questioned documents/evidence ? If this is the case then the investigation is half hearted, a waste of time and money. Useless. False hope.

I can’t understand the investigation and aim. The bank collapsed. Purpose is to establish facts. Trace whereabout of the money, the people concerned, questioned documents and other relevant informations are all in Iceland though some investments are overseas. Where they all deleted or shredded ? Maybe no legal provision for the prosecution of the case. Fishy.
According to Olafur Thor Hauksson, Special Prosecutor, ” We are set to close some cases this month, but that is only very provisionary.” Five ( 5 ) w’s ….. ?
It is indeed heartbreaking with the mistake of a few, the rest will suffer even the aged.
