Iceland banking crisis report now in print

alþingishúsið-littleThe long-awaited report by the Icelandic parliament’s financial investigation committee is currently being printed. According to RUV sources, the report is being printed at Oddi press in Reykjavik where Securitas guards are keeping it under constant watch.

The investigation committee has made significant effort to ensure none of the details of their report are leaked before the official release date. Originally the report was due last November. It was however delayed until the 1st February, and then until 1st March and then until “two or three weeks into March”. This schedule stands today and looks set to be achievable subject to the print run going to plan.

“printed? Thaat’s SO 19th century! Why didn’t they simply release it as a pdf, and let everybody print copies as necessary? Most people would be satisfied with reading that on the screen, instead of on paper. And, apart from ecological concerns, but isn’t this actually a good that has to be imported, at considerable cost?

    This is good news.

  3. Andrew says:

It’s a report for the parliament, so there will have to be printed archive copies to act as the master reference. It is indeed very good news that this report is being published. But what will it reveal?

  4. Axel says:

” Most people would be satisfied with reading that on the screen”

I think its close to 2000 pages, its easier to study this on paper than scrolling back and forth for the days it will take to read and understand all of this and connect it to other infomation we already have.

  5. Easy says:

They will come up with that there wsa a fire where they were printing it and the docunemt was burnt and now we have to wait more until they rewrite it.

If they succeed, will this be a first?

So far this is the most awaited report since the collapsed of the banks. Is it worth waiting ? Is this really FACTS or FICTION ?
    – To all concern please find time to scrutinize and examine the reports to protect us and the future generations from the bondage of capitalism.

    - only because JK Rowling isn’t writing any more Harry Potter books!

    Iceland Review is now reporting

“Iceland Crisis Report Expected Around Easter” (another three weeks).

They must be using an original Gutenberg printing press to be that slow :)

A real test of Wikileaks’ impartiality (or appetite for destruction, take your pick) would be for them to publish this report ahead of time. Assuming that they can get hold of it, of course.

  11. Fisy says:

This is the report that will actually give us a finally knowledge of what our politicans and burcrats did do and not do in the crisis.

    >A real test of Wikileaks’ impartiality (or appetite for destruction, take your pick) would be for them to publish this report ahead of time. Assuming that they can get hold of it, of course.

There is not copy of this available to UK govenrment and regulatory agencies so course it will not be leaked ahead time :)

Being impartial would be for wikilleaks to publish the corrupt grants that Social Democrat member have been getting from EU.

If they did not get it in they last trips then simply they show they are politically biased in quite a disappointing way.

  12. Bromley86 says:

Delayed. Mid April now (ETA currently 12 April). Worth checking out the RUV link just for the expression on that woman’s face:

    Cite?

  14. Knowless says:

    Bromley86 says:
    Cite?
    ————————————————————–

How can he cite until there first is a leak?

In effect that means a double proof,
Wikileaks impartiality can not be proven until it leaks this document.
The documentation exists, but because of Wikileak’s already proven partiality (because it has not leaked this doc) the document is not likely to see the light of day.

  15. Andrew says:

“The report is over 2000 pages long and will be published in nine volumes.”

Holy cow, even “The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire” only took 6 volumes! :)

“In the first seven-volume report discusses the run-up and cause falls Icelandic banks in 2008.”

You have to hand it to them, it must be very detailed.

“Eighth volume contains a working group report, which had the task of answering whether explanations for the fall of the Icelandic banks, and related economic shocks could to some extent found in the practices and ethics.”

As it takes an entire volume, I think we can conclude that a simple “Yes” or “No” will not do.

“The ninth volume are shown selected Annex report research committee.”

I somehow don’t think it is going to be a light read, but it should be illuminating.

  16. Bjarni says:

    To Gray, Germany:

The whole report will also be available online, as well as in printed form. By delaying the publication again and again, the committee has given the “detractors” a certain tool in the meantime to attack it. Some of those that represent the interests being investigated and fear the possible outcome, have already started trying to discredit the report.

In the meantime we will just have to wait until April 12th for the real report. Apparently this latest delay was due to the printing only being done during weekends for “security reasons”, which is rather lame excuse in my opinion.

  17. Bromley86 says:

    >How can he cite until there first is a leak?

Ah, so you’re saying it’s an unsupported opinion rather than a fact then?

Usually though, even before something is established as a fact, there’s some evidence that something might be going on. Presumably Fisy has that information, otherwise he’s just making stuff up because he dislikes the SD & EU.

  18. Dan says:

    Great news!

  19. marathons says:

The reason for all of these banking crises is because of the fallacy of central banking. Only gold and silver are real money.

  20. Marc says:

Banking institutions are very important for economic growth of a country, any business for that matter, good asset to debt ratio is so important. There is to reason that the bank could collapse all of sudden. The auditors must have identified it much earlier. It is true example of catastrophic effect. Hope we learn from this and build better nation
