Althingi banking report delayed ‘one last time’

landsbankiThe long awaited ‘Black Report’ into Iceland’s economic crisis is set to be delayed once again due to the long responses received from implicated parties.

The report by the Althingi investigation committee will be delayed by a further two to three weeks while committee members go over the more than 500 pages of answers received from the 12 current and former public officials formally invited to reply to committee accusations before publication of the report.

The report was originally scheduled for release last autumn and then delayed until the beginning of February, then the beginning of March and now, again, until two to three weeks into March, RUV reports. This time, the committee has not committed itself to a specific date.

A statement from the committee stated that the answers received represent the final materials needed and all that remains to do is to correlate the findings and print the extensive document. At this stage it is already logistically impossible to release it before the 11th March.

Too much leniency at the expence of the majority is unfair. Please be careful that the delay will not dissolved all the relevant documents. Time and transparency is of the essence. Do remember that prolonging the agony will increased the risk of the default or is this a case of politics for the wealthy and strict implementation for the poor ? Double standard. Beware.

I not surprised by this news.

I don’t know if anyone knows what the term ‘Bankrupt’ means… but a Bank is not a country. And you can’t bankrupt a country for what a few knaves and knobheads did with other people’s money. Stand and fight Iceland. Let them eat volcanoes.

As much as I can understand that this reviewing is a complex and time-consuming undertaking, and that something like this had never been done before in Iceland, I am disapointed.
Maybe they did give out a too early date from the beginning as nobody understood the magnitude of this reviewing, but after all what happened here in Iceland, after the almost completly gone trust of the Icelanders into there Parliament and Government., after all the stories coming up of MP’s taking loans and money from businesses, if not illegla thyan at elasi immorakl and shady…well, what are w ersupposed to think if the report is delayed again and again. there willb e always this voice now in my and amny Icelanders heads, saying:”be careful, theyw ant to trick you again…” We need real change, we endd to change all MP’, the while governemtn and the whole political class in Iceland. if this throws us back a decade, than so be it. We shoudl reconsider our sytem. I am a strong supporter in the”Swiss model”…. I think Iceland would be perfect for a Commonwealth-system rahter than a parliamentarian Republic with all the possibilities for money wasting (President and PM) and back-room bussinesses as done here for 60 years at least. I do not believe that we need 11 ministries plus the 2 offices for PM and President. Look at Switzerland…
