The former Icelandic Prime Minister, Steingrimur Hermansson has died aged 82.
He passed away at his home in Gardabaer near Reykjavik. Steingrimur Hermansson was born in Reykjavik on 22nd June 1928 and leaves behind a wife and six children who are grown up.
Hermansson was a trained and experienced engineer before moving into politics as a Progressive Party MP in 1971. He became PM in 1983 and remained in the top job until 1991.
Following being Prime Minister, Steingrimur Hermansson ended his career as head of the Central Bank of Iceland between 1994 and 1998.
