The Icelandic men’s handball team today beat Poland to take the third place ranking at the EHF European Handball Championships in Austria.
They beat Poland 29-26 in a very exciting game which looked sure to go Iceland’s way by half time; but a fierce Polish return to the second half kept spectators engaged until the end.
Iceland’s bronze medal is the team’s first ever medal in a European championship and leaves them as current medal holders in two large competitions: the European Championships and the Olympics, where they won silver.
France and Croatia will battle for the gold medal in the final later this evening.
Again my congratulations for a job well done. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL.
Congratulations, Iceland. On a terrific handball championship, on an enviable country, on wonderful (sometimes stubborn) people. You, a small nation, are achieving so much – sometimes the impossible. Europe, and the world, sees this, and has so many sympathies for you.
Stop seeing yourselves simply as the creators of the IceSave disaster. You are viewed by the vast majority as the creators of much finer things. Believe in yourself and your old qualities – continue to work hard, be optimistic and you will have weathered the storm in 5 or 10 years. Not a long time, no, given your history.
We will all do eerything we can to suport you.
