Unofficial Iceland EU info centre opens

eu1A new Icelandic political movement in support of entry into the EU opens its doors to the public today.

Jon Steindor Valdimarsson, head of the Icelandic Confederation of Labour, is part of the group of 100 people who have organised the group and its new information centre. The movement is called “Stronger Iceland – A Nation among Nations”.

Valdimarsson told Visir.is that Stronger Iceland is intended to be a grassroots movement of people who want an open and fair discussion of why Iceland is right to be applying for European Union membership. No formal spokespeople will be named and the group will not have a strong board or a chairman. Instead, all members will share control, he said.

The movement’s headquarters and public information centre in Reykjavik will be staffed by unpaid volunteers and their costs and expenses will be covered by donations.

At last some one realized that Social Democrat have not given any reason that it is good for Icelandic people to join the EU.

So now an attempt will be made to convince.

Good luck ! — you will need it, because the reasons to do so are very weak.

I thought Valdimarsson should have been busy enough dealing with >17,000 jobless workers.
