A large fishing vessel in the northwest Icelandic town of Isafjordur was severely damaged yesterday by a fire onboard.

The boat was moored in the harbour and local emergency services report that the fire was mainly in the ship’s wheelhouse.

Two policemen and harbour staff extinguished the fire with hand-held equipment and the fire brigade were soon on scene to douse the vessel and ensure the fire was completely out.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
