Record Christmas charity help in Iceland

religion1Icelandic charities have received applications for special assistance at Christmas from 3,900 individuals and families, which is a significant increase on last year.

Distribution from three of the biggest charities ended yesterday and a statement says that special aid this year will likely reach some 10,500 people. This year saw a significant increase in the number of people volunteering to help the charities collect and distribute the goods, including food and small gift items.

The number of volunteers in full-time education and in employment in the private sector was particularly welcome this year.
