A silly frog in an Icelandic advert is causing mirth in the other side of the world as somebody discovered his catch phrase sounds like the name of a girl in Malaysia. Before she knew it, she was being bombarded with Facebook friends requests from Iceland and revelling in her media stardom…albeit on the opposite side of the globe.
Essasa Sue seems to be enjoying her popularity in Iceland based purely on the fact her name sounds like “Essasú”. The joke, such as it is, is fairly hard to translate; but the frog is lispingly talking to the viewer in the manner one might talk to a dog; gently encouraging them to do as he asks. If seeing truly is believing, click here.
As the joke is not exactly international, Essasa Sue has found herself politely explaining that her name is actually not Essasú.
The consensus seems to be that as long as Essasa Sue continues to find it funny, then there is no harm done. With over 1,800 people accepted on Facebook as “friends”, she does not appear to mind the attention yet.
