Icelandic churches make noise for climate awareness

350.org1Churches across Iceland will ring their bells 350 times at 15.00 today to show the National Church of Iceland’s support for the 350.org campaign. The 350 campaign aims to maintain levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere no higher than 350 parts per million – a figure scientists say is the safe upper limit to avoid runaway climate change. Progress towards a binding agreement at the current UN climate summit in Copenhagen is seen as key in the organisation’s campaign.

350.org’s target is no longer just CO2. Their 350 ppm target is now for all CO2e (ie all CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases). But no science behind that scope creep. Just new political targets!
