The Independence Party is now the most popular in Reykjavik, according to the latest Gallup poll.
Iceland’s Independence Party received 39 percent support, while 34 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Social Democrats. The Left Green Movement came next with 21 percent and the Progressive Party polled four percent.
The Independence Party therefore gained one percentage point since the last poll and has regained strength to levels last seen in spring 2008.
The Social Democrats have been on the downswing in recent opinion polls and lost one percent on their showing in July. Their Left Green coalition partners on the other hand, have added four percent to their popularity since last time. Support for the Progressive Party has been volatile and their current level of support represents a two percent drop from July.
6,000 people were asked to take part in the survey and 70 percent accepted.
Vote for The Independance Party because everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others….

The only question – when the current coalition collapses as without real miracle there are very little chances for them to survive the winter.
It looks like both Gordon Brown and Johanna Sigurdardottir will be writing their memoirs next summer. I wonder if they’ll collaborate on a chapter covering Icesave.

“THE MAFIA” is obviously the Independence Party, but are “THE PIRATES” the Social Democrats and “THE IGNORANTS” the Greens? Seems a little confused to me.

The MAFIA is, of course the Independence Party, the IGNORANTS are their voters and the PIRATES are the “Progressive” Party (joke), who will grab any votes that happen to stray too close to them.
The penny just dropped: “THE MAFIA” is the Independence Party, “THE PIRATES” are the businessmen and bankers, and “THE IGNORANTS” are the people. It feels like I’m trying to interpret JD Salinger…
We had a joke when we worked in-country – the names of the political parties are the exact opposite of what they stand for:
The Independence Party denies freedom and promotes individual dependence on the state.
The Liberal Party is an extreme fascist party.
The Progressive Party fights any sort of progress.
The Left-Greens are niether socialist nor eco-based but are a vehicle for one man’s megalomania (Steingrimmur).
And the United Popular Front is neither united, nor popular but it might be a front for something …

There are 2 big mafias fighting to control Iceland, one owns half of the media and the Social democrat party and the other owns the other half and the Independence party, both are fighting to get control of Iceland, mainly because of its assets and very prosperous resource called nation, you can tax them, rob them, kick them when they are down and they dont fight back,
the left green are trying what they can, for what its wort and the united peoples front unforunetly split up because of a argument, Þráinn Bertelson decided to leave the party and is a one mans party now :) hehe
