Jon Sigurdsson, president of Icelandic prosthetics company Ossur, had the honour of ringing the bell at the NASDAQ stock exchange on Wall Street in New York to mark the end of trading yesterday evening.
Share prices rose considerably yesterday on Wall Street: the Dow Jones was up 2.04 percent at 10,227 points and the NASDAQ rose 1.94 percent to 2,153. Both exchanges were slightly down today though: the Dow by 0.15 percent and NASDAQ by 0.38 percent.
Prices took an upward swing amid optimism that world leaders intend to continue their economic stimulus packages, MBL.is reports.
The Reykjavik stock exchange is run by NASDAQ along with all the other OMX Nordic and Baltic exchanges. Sigurdsson was invited to ring the bell on Wall Street to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Ossur being listed on the Icelandic stock exchange.
