I think the number of visitors this summer has been a bit less than in 2009, so there has been a negative impact, probably caused b y cancelled flights.
There is a theoretical risk that a new eruption might cause similar disruptions.
We have been to Iceland in june and there was no problem at all.
However it became clear that there was still a lot of vulcanic ash in the air. When there was an eastern wind blowing Reykjavik became completely hazy (however the domestic airport was not closed).
We drove past Eyafjallajokull and it was still smoking. We also collected a lot of ash as a souvenir.
Basically I think the vulcano should not deter you. It even offers completely different perspectives.

Does anyone know about the impact of the vulcanic activities on the tourism industry in iceland? I guess since there was a lot of trouble a few months ago with a cloud of ashes some people might hesitate to visit this beautiful country?

That’s good for Icelandair but also for the whole of Island also. The country has been hit by two distastes (the volcano and the crisis) so it’s in a bad need of some money coming in.And I think that Iceland deserves to be the top touristic destination fro 2010 simply because it’s a marvelous country with stunning landscape, offering a huge variety of things to see and to do for the average tourist.

I agree, Iceland has great landscapes and of course is big tourist attraction.. I would like to go once on the island to see it with my own eyes..
