The sex trade is alive and well in Iceland; which includes illegal prostitution and human trafficking, according to one of Iceland’s EUROPOL representatives. He says that Icelandic law enforcement agencies are worried because the problem appears to be growing.
It is believed human trafficking is the most seriously escalating problem with connections to organised crime rings in EU countries. EUROPOL, the pan-European police agency, believes a special effort to tackle human trafficking should be initiated, as the new form of slavery is now considered second only to the drugs trade in severity.
The human trafficking problem has grown out of all proportion in Norway in recent years, and it is feared the same is happening in Iceland.
Eight men are currently being held by police in southern Iceland connected to an alleged prostitution and human trafficking ring, almost certainly linked with organised gangs outside of Iceland.
Police are working with EUROPOL on the issue, but none of the men have yet confessed anything.
It is estimated that some 800,000 people are illegally trafficked into slavery, often into prostitution, every year in the world.

I have a daughter in school in Reykjavik,Thought she had a head on her shoulders,what with her me her mother being brought up in London,Always warning her about dangers she could be pulled into,So this summer she got into a bad company ended up in drug rehab,we only found out what was going on after she was arrested,Just shows you no matter how wide open your eyes are,if your kids dont wont you to know something you wont know it.
My daughters got her own passport if she had fallen to a sex traffiker she could of been whiped out the country underfalse pretenses whithout me knowing untill it was to late.I always prided myself on the fact that im close to my kids´& knew what was happening in their lives,always keept in mind that this was a small place & parents do get to here things,But the kids also are aware of this fact & will go to great lenghths for us parents not to hear anything …..This is quite a disturbing article to read especialy for parents of teenagers who attend school in Reykjavik when there home is outside the city..

From the little that I know, they’re often not aware of what they’re getting themselves into. They think it’s for au pair work or similar.

The answer is of course “no”, otherwise the market wouldn’t exist and the traffickers would be pushing drugs or stealing instead. We’re not talking about happy (or worn out) hooker types here, we’re talking about young girls. Very young.

Imagine the perverted mind of some of the locals, here is essay to get laid by women and men, but it tends to push to something that is more difficult to get, teens or younger. Cant really understand but at the same time the media is selling us just that “hot-ties” that are 16 to 20 years old. So no wonder that after such a bombardment the mind of certain individuals gets corrupted. I was living once in the states and over there i heard cases of plenty of women getting teen boys for the same reason, also for some strange reason socially it is consider ” cool” if a mature women engage with them but it is not seen as an abuse, or the boy is ” hooking” is not as shocking unless of course a man is the one getting the service from the boy then is like WTF!!

Talking about the subject of this thread, I came upon a hilarious scene from a dutch TV show.
In this show a journalist asks questions to people who are waiting at Amsterdam airport to meet their relatives/loved ones.
Usually innocent feel good TV but this time there was an old guy meeting his “girlfriend” who was coming over from Cuba .
The guy is 67 and there is a steep difference in age of 39 years.
When asked how long their relationship had been going on the guy replies: 13 years….
Now some quick maths shows that in this case the girl was 15 when it started….
They guy also realizes this and quickly tries to correct himself:….uhm I mean 11 years, she was just 18 when I met her….

Prostitution is the oldest profession and with progress has also developed accordingly. This is a very delicate problem, complex in nature often influenced by drugs and alcohol. The operation may be syndicated, international or personal by telephone or otherwise. Investigation has to be thorough, lenghty and with the cooperatiion of various interelated agenecies. In my all most 15 years in the police service, I can say desperation may become a cause, force and intimidation as for those who are kidnap and sold, bad company and etc. The best thing to be done is mainly to study the problem, released proper information on the kind and operation and deal with it pragmatically. Help must always be available.
