The Icesave bill signed yesterday will, in all likelihood, be passed by Althingi. Four Left Green MPs have consistently refused to toe their party line; but at least two of them now appear willing to vote in favour.
One of the MPs, Gudfridur Lilja Gretarsdottir, has publicly supported the new bill. Former Minister for Health Ogmundur Jonasson has also indicated that he will vote in favour; but that he still has his reservations.
RUV reports that if they both support the bill but the other two rebels (Lilja Mosesdottir and Asmundur Einar Dadason) both vote against, the bill will still pass into law; provided other government party MPs do not change their minds.

So, what’s the current prediction in terms of the number of MPs for, against, and abstaining?
>provided other government party MPs do not change their minds.
I don’t quite understand this interpretation of the RÚV ( TV ) report myself either, before you answer asking Easy.
The MPs from all other parties were for the ammendments they made in August. They are not for this counter offer to the deal.
>The MPs from all other parties were for the ammendments they made in August. They are not for this counter offer to the deal.
But are they required for a majority? If the government can keep all of the SD & all but two of the LGs in line, then it’ll pass.
And what are people(we)waiting to start prostesting this and put preassure on MP’s? or, are people going to wait untill the exact day and hour they will put it to Alþingi to go and protest for 1/2 an hour. Pathetic!!! Or has everybody understood by now what I said long long time ago, Iceland WILL accept the icesave deal with every condition like a good trained DOG!!
Easy – You are an anarchist through and through. Either that or you are a fully paid-up member of the Independence Party.
“are people going to wait until the exact day and hour they will put it to Alþingi to go and protest for 1/2 an hour.”
LOL, Indeed!!
Well neither, number one, I doubt very much that you know what anarchist means, number two, If woul have been posting and reading in this portal you would know I’m not pro the independence party, that doesn’t change the fact that the people that are in power now are perfect idiots, the others were idiots these are idiots and completly ignorat, my point is that there is nobady capable or prepared enough in Iceland to control a nation that wants to be playing and hanging out with the big boys, thats why we should go back to be the little island full of farmers and fisherman we have always been, just imagin if this is the best that our”polititians” manged to “negotiate”, what are we to spect if we go to EU? what kind of deals will they “negotiate” for Iceland, we will be the classic sidekick, and I dont say we will be in a figurative manner, I mean we WILL BE for sure.
One thing is for sure, a group of monkeys would have gotten a better deal than these people(and in case you are wondering, the idependents would have gotten the same deal)and a group of monkeys FOR SURE have more dignity and self respect.
The thrill of the chill.
The vote looks comfortable in favour.
I suppose it’s not too bad, about 800,000kr each?
and with plenty of time for the kids to grow up and pay their share.
Looks like playing the poor mouth didn’t work to well with those heartless Brits and cowardly Dutch.
Will have to postpone that upgrade to 38″ wheels and live with the 32″.
Easy – So, apart from the Anarchist Monkey Movement, which party would you vote for if you had to choose one?
This is from The Iceland Weather Report it is actually a translation from the original source(THX Alda), and think it describes the outcome of this “negotiations” with incredible acuracy even dough in a satirical way.
Original Icelandic source: http://baggalutur.is/frettir.php?id=4708
The Icesave dispute has been resolved. Negotiators for Iceland, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom presented the terms of the agreement this morning. They are, in brief:
Icelanders apologize for having stolen the life savings of British and Dutch citizens for the purpose of buying SUVs, chocolate fountains, iPods and plasma TVs.
The Dutch get all male children born in Iceland from 2009-2097.
The British get Hófí, Páll Óskar, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and the recipe for cocktail sauce.
The Icelanders promise never to do it again (unless they absolutely have to).
Easy,
This was in fact posted on a dutch satirical site:
http://www.geenstijl.nl/mt/archieven/2009/10/ijsland_is_van_ons_wat_nu.html
“Iceland is ours. Where are the slaves?”
The site is more interested in female icelanders (hence the pics of Miss Iceland)
RE: On Oct 20, 2009, Easy
Well said, but who beside the monkeys can do better to negotiate the Icesave, IMF and EU deal?
Iceland has no politicians which are strong enough to bring this to a good end. It would be better to stick the heads in the ground and wait until there are ellections in the UK and Holland. Both governments are shaking and have no support from the people. Icesave is not more than a propoganda for these politicians.
The only problem is that Johanna want to run into the arms of the EU against all costs. And the Icelandic people let her, that is the worst off all, they are just listening to the news and hope that it will go away. Just one thing will help: Action
YES people Action!!
Not how I see it. Certainly in the UK, Icesave just doesn’t get the press time to be of much propoganda value. Likewise, when the Conservatives win, they are going to have to cut spending to the bone. It won’t look good if the first thing they do is give £2bn to Iceland.
@Who will win ?
You are right about the fact that in the Netherlands the goberment is extremely unpopular and it will certainly be voted out during the next election, same with Browne.
BUT elections here will only take place in 2010 or 2011 and Iceland cannot wait so long for further loans.
Moreover I do not think that a next dutch goberment will be more lenient towards Iceland.
“certainly be voted out during the next election, same with Brown”
The problem for Britain’s Labour Party is that all the candidates for leader are either inexperienced (eg the Milibands), hated (eg Mandelson), or unwilling (eg Straw). Maybe Tony Blair should return to Westminster – he could run the UK on weekdays and the EU at weekends.
