IMF and Iceland to sit down together in Turkey

strauss-kahnIceland’s Minister for Finance, Steingrimur J. Sigfusson will meet with IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn tomorrow or on Tuesday.

Sigfusson has already arrived in Turkey, where the IMF is holding its annual meeting, which formally begins on Tuesday. Mar Gudmundsson, the chairman of the Central Bank of Iceland will also be in the meeting with Strauss-Kahn. Gudmundsson said in an interview with RUV yesterday that the meeting is planned to examine the details of co-operation between the IMF and Icelandic authorities. The Icelandic delegates will use the meeting to press on Strauss-Kahn how important it is for the IMF to conduct its delayed review on Iceland as soon as possible. The review was due in February and its delay means the second tranche of loan payments to the country has not yet been made.
