BBC exposes Iceland tourism industry to the world

westmanIceland received some excellent coverage on BBC television this week in two episodes of BBC World News’s Fast Track programme.

One of the programmes focuses on how Iceland was always most famous for its natural beauty until the banking crash last year – going on to explore how the situation is not all bad because of the resurgence of the tourism industry in the country, MBL.is reports.

The other of the two programmes pays special attention to the Westman Islands off Iceland’s southern coast, home to the world’s largest puffin colony. The colony draws large numbers of tourists to the islands. The programme also featured the local children who help stranded baby puffins find their way out to sea each year.

Both clips can be seen here on the BBC website.

Nice, but it confirms what I suspected. Even at half the price Iceland is still very expensive. London or New York for 40% more.

Still, Iceland’s tourist potential is huge. It a place that a lot of people would love to visit.

There is absolutely no way I will ever set foot in or spend a cent on Iceland while the government there continues to support killing hundreds of endangered whales every single year. Iceland is officially an Eco-NOGO Zone.
