The injunction imposed on Icelandic national broadcaster RUV over revelations in the leaked Kaupthing loan book has been lifted. The issue was re-examined today by the Reykjavik District Commissioner at the request of the broadcaster.
The Commissioner acted on behalf of Kaupthing on Saturday a few minutes before the main evening news on television to prevent RUV showing the document discussed here on IceNews.
The decision attracted strong criticism from politicians and the public, as well as the Journalists’ Union of Iceland and the RUV News Broadcasters’ Association – both of which protested the move.
The Old Kaupthing resolution committee and the leaders of New Kaupthing have now agreed not to appeal the latest decision, RUV reports. Finnur Sveinbjornsson, director of New Kaupthing, said the authorities should now re-examine banking secrecy provisions and enact a law the banks can rely on.

Dear Icelandic friends,
Why has the new goverment not informed the public on all this **** about KB banki? They have known this for a long time. Why?
– Why has the new goverment not informed the public on all this **** about KB banki?
Because it doesn’t matter which puppets use the chairs in Parliament since people and money behind them are still the same.
What a mess! It chaos. The banks are right that there should now be clarity in Icelandic law about what information should be made public and what information the banks have a legal obligation to keep private. The government should have been ahead of the curve on this (leading by defining the scope of public interest in banking information), instead of reacting after the event like surprised idiots.
It is a very sad state of affairs when things like this no longer surprise me.
It would not surprise me if the source of this presentation was from some in KSF in the UK. The assumption is of course that it was someone leaked it from Iceland to DV.
You notice we do not hear any thing about loan book of Landsbanki and Glitnir despite that both banks were in worse shape than Kauthping by a huge way.
Note that there are a handful of what look like blanked out pages in there. However leak this if it was really the share loan company interested in would have redacted every thing else.

> The bank’s point-of-view is that the document should remain secret to protect the secrecy of the bank’s customers – an important guarantee all customers should be able to take for granted.
>Finnur Sveinbjornsson, director of New Kaupthing, said the authorities should now re-examine banking secrecy provisions and enact a law the banks can rely on.
They are correct. This releasing as has been done is pretty disgusting and every one should know better. Privacy is sign of civilised society of which financial privacy is one part and this release damanges many parties who should not have been damanged.
If this loan book is to be released I want to see release of the loan book for Landsbanki and Glitnir too so this act which has further damanged reputation of the country can at least result in all misdeeds being seen.
>The government should have been ahead of the curve on this (leading by defining the scope of public interest in banking information), instead of reacting after the event like surprised idiots.
As idiot is, idiot reacts.
Have you any doubt by now that Steingrímur and Jóhanna are competitent individuals working towards the intrerests of Icelandic people and maintiaing reputation of country in eyes of world ?
Of course you do. And Icelandic people also figured it out about time of April when new stricter exchange control was passed.
