Siminn, the Icelandic telecommunications company provides communications services to around 70 cruise ships all over the world – deals which have netted the company some 90,000 extra customers and around ISK 1 billion in extra takings, Frettabladid reports. “You could say this is an offshoot of our successful work with Icelandic fishing ships,” said Saevar Freyr Thrainsson, Siminn CEO.
Siminn calls its international service On Waves, which it has been operating since 2002. The company provides mobile GSM services for cruise ships, ferries, cargo ships and private jets, allowing end users to use their normal mobile phones all over the world.
According to the company’s website, the technology is unique and they were the first company to offer such services.
