I am well aware that Jim was saying the landscape was NOT responsible.
Really…..read all the comments before writing in about a thread. I was responding to Jim’s lack of understanding of my rebuttal to “t.”
My God….This site has become unbearable to debate through the comments. No one, well not many, seem to pay attention to the discussion and add an honest thoughtful point.
There was a time when you had to posses a little wisdom to get your thought published, for the most part. Now the internet allows any coffee house philosopher to write their non-sensical thoughts. Well….I guess it is good for a laugh at least.

Robert, If you took a breath before typing you’d see that Jim was in fact saying that Iceland’s landscape is NOT responsible for anything. But because its business, government, media and consumers ARE responsible, it is fair to say that “Iceland” is responsible – even though its rocks, birds and trees are innocent.

Jim do yourself a favor and stick to debating in private, your comments here are bordering on ignorance.

I realize this thread of comments stemmed from a subject contrary to the discussion taking place. That is what makes a healthy discussion and allows for new ideas and thought to come to light.

@Robert – In this context, the commonly-accepted causes of Iceland’s financial collapse (ie government, central bank, regulators, banks, companies, entrepreneurs, media, mortgagees, consumers, etc) are so broad that they could reasonably be termed “Iceland” within the assertion “Iceland caused Iceland’s financial collapse”. The point is to differentiate internal national causation from external causation. I doubt anyone would confuse term usage to conclude that Iceland’s landscape was culpable.

“t.”, what if people behaved offline the same way you do online.

Whenever someone brings up a topic of conversation just start talking about any topic that springs into mind. The more off point the better.

I believe offline this might be characterized as crazy.

A little respect for people reading your posts wouldn’t hurt either.

Look where the crisis started. It was not in Iceland, was it? And the kreppa is off-topic in this subject anyway.

I think that as the girl was “helping” the farmer with the cows she should be entitled to the same benefits after the accident as if she had been officially his employee.

Excuse me “Jim” where did I state that other countries caused the Icelandic Crisis. I stated that it was caused “by a corrupt banking system and a government that will not hold the responsible parties accountable.” If you are cable of reading and comprehending the English language, you would know that my statement means that Iceland is certainly responsible for ITSELF.
The statement made by “t.” , whom I was addressing my comment to, was ambiguous about “a financial crisis”. That statement tends to lean to the side that Iceland caused the current financial crisis, which is a global problem. I was just stating an obvious fact that Iceland did not cause a global crisis, but their own in the middle of all this.
If you are going to comment on a statement made here, please think before you post.

Iceland did not CAUSE a financial crisis. The citizens got screwed by a corrupt banking system and a government that will not hold the responsible parties accountable. If you honestly think a country of 300,000 could have caused this global problem, you have no concept of economics or even reality.

No idiotic American loans to unqualified home buyers due to political pressure by the Clinton administration and racially motivated community organizations started a financial crisis. Iceland was just too greedy ,too small and too inexperienced at playing the game. On the matter with the cow, sure the farmer sure have done more, and should pay something, but I wonder if the poor physically disabled girl will go out dancing to celebrate her victory.
