Icelandair First Flight to Stavanger, Norway Today

ahofn-og-staff-i-stavangerIcelandair today started twice weekly services to Stavanger in Norway. Celebrating the occasion, the Mayor of Stavanger, Leif Johan Sevland and the Director of Stavanger Airport, Leif Lorentzen were welcomed by Birkir Holm Gudnason, Icelandair CEO, and other passengers at a reception ceremony onboard.

Icelandair has for a long time operated daily services to Oslo and started flights to Bergen on the west coast of Norway two years ago. This summer there will be daily flights from Oslo and two times a week from Stavanger and Bergen.

Icelandair CEO, Birkir Holm Gudnason, points out the potential of the increased services to Norway: “The Icelandair business idea is to use the geographical location of Iceland between North America and Northern Europe for profitable airline operations. These west Norwegian communities, Bergen and Stavanger, each have a similar population to Iceland, they have strong economies and highly developed tourism, especially in the cruise business. There are also strong historical and social ties between Iceland and this area, and a large number of Icelanders live there. This fits our model and strategy. We are confident that we can build up a very convenient service with sales in all our markets – in North America, in Iceland and in Norway. Icelandair can now offer quite superior connections to and from the region and North America,” he said.

I have told it to my sister in law – she even lives closer to the airport than me – 15 km.

    She likes:

    - spa
    - shopping
    - good food and wine
    - sleep in a good bed

Please – don´t discuss economy with her, money and credit card are just some practical things.

  2. Halvard Lund says:

This is a wonderful initiative. I live in Stavanger. Now I have a great new way to visit Iceland. Cool..

  3. Balkanson says:

    She reads books?

    Can’t you read?

Øystein said – practical things ONLY!

    ;-)

and rich guys ?! Or is she married ? :P you didn’t write if she sleeps alone, Øystein :P

    (beklager, just kidding)

    > Balkanson – she reads books – a lot of books. I think you will have problem to follow her :-) She was in Reykjavik last year – she enjoyed it very much.

As Halvard Lund said – this is a great initiative. I hope and think people will use it. The people here are easy to get on a trip…

Another Lund – Helge Lund – has made an two year agreement to use Icelandair for “his” company on all transatlantic traffic from Scandinavia. Just take good care of that agreement.

    Øystein ,
You mentioned the following hobbies of your sister-in-law:

    - spa
    - shopping
    - good food and wine
    - sleep in a good bed

Now I can understand the first 3 but how do I have to see the last one:-) ?

  8. densou says:

! well, Niels, he wrote she lives closer to Stavanger Airport than him perhaps I suppose in proximity of Sola where that air facility is located.

Dudes, just kidding again :P:P:P Why ?

sola (Italian word, ‘solo’ refers to a singular masculine noun) = alone (English) = alene (Norsk)
    *lol*

  9. Vilhjalm Antonsen says:

Perhaps the Norwegian Grensekontroll should stamp in the passport of every Icelander getting off the airplane in Stavanger, the following quote from the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in February 2008, that “Iceland should stop comparing itself with the other Nordic Countries, after all we are in many ways superior to them”.
And give them some food survival rations and directions to the nearest Red Cross shelter.

  10. Balkanson says:

Are Icelandair flying KEF-SVG-BGO-KEF in one route or they are two separate routs KEF-BGO-KEF and KEF-SVG-KEF?

  11. Balkanson says:

The Icelandic people don’t read books. Same as the Norwegian. The only book they read is Facebook. Go to any profile there and look at the favorite books. You will see only nonsense like Harry Potter, but never Dostoyevsky.

  12. Øystein;Norway says:

Niels – Perhaps she is only having a sweat dream, thinking of the lovely day she have had – perhaps she is wondering if her grandparents also had a good time when they moved to and lived in Reykjavik for some years, long, long time ago…
