Nordic outrage at North Korea nuclear test

north_koreasmasll1

Nordic foreign ministers have spoken out in condemnation of North Korea’s Sunday nuclear weapons test on home soil.

Ossur Skarphedinsson, Iceland’s foreign Minister said that the Icelandic government is unsympathetic towards all use of nuclear weapons and has been working to reduce their use globally.

“North Korea’s action has been severely criticised all over the world; and I think it’s a really bad sign that at the same time that others are trying to reduce their nuclear weapons stocks, this poverty stricken country is investing huge sums in developing theirs – money that would be better spent feeding the many North Koreans who live with hunger,” the Foreign Minister told Morgunbladid.

This weekend’s nuclear tests are said to be some 20-times more powerful than North Korea’s first nuclear test in 2006.

Norwegian Foreign Minister, Jonas Gahr Store also criticised the tests, while Jan Egeland, Director of the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs (NUPI), told NRK: “North Korea’s irrational leadership is gambling with its whole population”.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister was equally scathing. Carl Bildt told The Local: “There is every reason to fear that efforts to combat the growing economic and social problems in North Korea will now become even more difficult”.

An emergency session of the UN Security Council has been called by Russia, which currently holds the rotating presidency.

You Nordic people do not critize North Korea nuclear ambition after all Norway sells weapons to the third world in the name of peace so does Sweden. You people only look to the Anglo Saxon mentality its time that other nations change of power wake up viking go back to your roots and stay at home to show the world how peace loving people you are.

  2. vikingisson says:

But first you show us some peace and love. Your beloved revolution in NK does not impress anyone.

  3. Alexander E. says:

Who are those OTHERS? I checked Google but couldn’t find such country or union as OTHERS. :-) As far as I know everybody modernizing it’s nukes.

That’s true. So called “western world” making huge money from death tools sales.

  4. ASIAN POWER says:

I support NORTH KOREA as a nuclear power why should its only limited to only the west and israel do not forget that the country that destroy the world is western civilisation so we should rejoice that nuclear IRAN,SYRIA,PAKISTAN,INDIA,SOUTH AFRICA is good to harmonise to balance from the west and its evil intention.Do you know that slavery is started by the west nations to humilate other race so other culture should has nuclear weapons to counter the west. Thats a fact do not distort history print my arcticle for comparison. Viva north korea

  5. Alfred says:

I’ll bet it makes the North Korean leadership very, very nervous to find out that the SCANDINAVIANS are upset with them. How scary. As if any one of these puny blowhard passive little countries is ever going to send any military force anywhere to back up their big tough talk. Iceland doesn’t even have a military. Scandinavian countries and people are preachy weaklings with inflated egos.

  6. vikingisson says:

Where are you trolls coming from and what goes through your mini brains? I’ll try not to condemn your countries because of your ignorant opinions. Understand that our “preachy” politicians don’t represent individual opinions. Here’s how I feel, nuke tests are a decades out of date attempt at sabre rattling that has long lost any fear factor. NK simply doesn’t scare me. Nor does Iran or China. Make all the noise you want and the politicians can play.
I get the last laugh because being a small “insignificant” country allows us to not waste resources on an inflated military, we spend it on ourselves instead of starving our own people.
Enjoy your faux bad boy egos, it is both funny and sad. I’ll sit here enjoying a cleaner environment.

  7. CHINA POWER says:

    TO VIKINGSON,
IF YOU NORDIC STATE IS SO CONCERN ABOUT NUCLEAR BOMBS TELL NORWAY AND SWEDEN STOP EXPORTING ARMS TO THE THIRD WORLD THIS IS DOUBLE STANDARD GET OUT OF NATO AND KICK OUT THE MILITARY BASE FROM UNCLE SAM THEY ARE THE REAL CULPRITS OF DESTROYING THE WORLD THE WORLD HAS CHANGE GIVE OTHER NATIONS PEACE AND STOP SELLING ARMS WHAT A LAUGHING STOCK

  8. Jorge from SPAIN says:

Moderate and considered message was censured yesterday and, this s*i* is put here every day. Who do moderate this? I hope that he/she is not a North Korean spy trying to destroy my dear NATO!!

Could a sensible man imagine a world without NATO? We would be suddenly eaten! chinese, russians, north koreans, … Please, USA, does not give dollars to that blackmailer and swine regime!!

“IF YOU NORDIC STATE IS SO CONCERN ABOUT NUCLEAR BOMBS TELL NORWAY AND SWEDEN STOP EXPORTING ARMS TO THE THIRD WORLD THIS IS DOUBLE STANDARD GET OUT OF NATO AND KICK OUT THE MILITARY BASE FROM UNCLE SAM THEY ARE THE REAL CULPRITS OF DESTROYING THE WORLD”

Yes, so you can also sell the Norwegian quota of arms!!!!

  9. densou says:

lol, Alfred’s post passed ‘censorship’ while mine doesn’t. (it was a simply advice to N.Korea, not related at all torwards Nordic people. Anyway, I don’t mind)

  10. Optimist says:

CHINA POWER aka. GUS, you live on Iceland, you know all about having American bases in your country please enlighten us! No other scandinavian country have “THE MILITARY BASE FROM UNCLE SAM”

Besides the Scandinavian politicians doesn’t give a damn about N. Korea.
Carl Bildt only did the press release after he was criticised for being passive in the matter.

  11. Vikingisson says:

@China whoever: I don’t agree with arms exporting nor the U.S. fighting for oil. That doesn’t mean I can’t have an opinion about NK. So if China is exporting arms to the opposite side does that make it even? And perhaps neither of us is then allowed an opinion because of a news story and an apparent conflict of interests?
Balance your warped sense of politics and history with recent history. Cold war games still go on but now $China is a bigger player. I wonder where NK gets their boom toys?

So yes I’m a bit outraged that NK is blowing up nukes. But I’m also not worried about them as a country. pathetic actually.

naw, this is a waste of time.

  12. Alexander E. says:

    Then it’s double standards ;-)
Either don’t give a damn or don’t condemn but not both.

My point is – don’t bark if you can not bite. It’s look funny as least and next time when politicians have to be serious about something – nobody would listen to them.

I wonder where NK gets their boom toys?

They make them. They are Koreans after all ;-)

In fact – the less noise is made around N.Korea – the better for all. Cause the only point of nuclear test and missiles shooting was to say “I’m here! Don’t ignore me! Hey, you! Look at me!” As soon as Kim dies – this regime will collapse.

  13. ASIAN POWER says:

LOOK AROUND HOW YOU WEST NATIONS DESTROY THE UNIVERSE LIKE IRAQ ALL THE KILLINGS DONE IN THE NAME OF TERRORISM ANSWER FALSE,AFGHANISTAN ALL THE FIGHTING AND DESTROYING OF CHILDREN,AND FAMILIES,VIETNAM FIGHTING IN THE NAME OF COMMUNISM ALL THIS IN DISGUISE OF WESTERN IMPERIALISM. NOW ONLY NORTH KOREA TESTING A NUCLEAR DEVICE AT ITS TERRITORY SO NO HUMANS BEINGS KILLED THAT MAKE A GREAT DIFFERENCE COMPARE TO YOUR UNCLE SAM OF STUPID EXCUSES

  14. Optimist says:

Alexander: Carl Bildt doesn’t give a damn, he was only forced to condemn it because “aftonbladet.se” made him say something. Basically it is Japan and S. Korea’s headache, besides N. Korea is a small problem compared to Pakistan. Pakistan got the A-bomb for years and the islamists are gaining a secure foothold in that country. They will eventually send a present for their good friend Bin Laden, with a note attached “Use as you see fit”
This is where the real threat is at the moment, but we don’t see that in the news.

  15. Jim - USA says:

How do we even know whether North Korea was successful in detonating a real nuke? Kim Jong Il knows all he has to do is get the world’s seismometers to register a huge explosion mimicking a nuke.

All he has to do is order a huge tunnel cut into a mountain, sloping down a few hundred meters deep. Run rails into it and roll two dozen boxcars full of dynamite into the tunnel. Fuse it up. Fill in the tunnel entrance to prevent the blast energy from getting out. Light it off and watch the seismometers around the world get rattled while bragging about a successful nuke test.
