Drop in Iceland mortgage rates

reykjavik-houseIceland’s Housing Finance Fund (Íbúðalánasjóður) today lowered its interest rates. The general mortgage rate has now fallen to 4.7 percent from 4.9 percent. Interest on mortgages without prepayment clause is now 5.2 percent instead of 5.4.

Although the banks have offered mortgages for several years, the government-owned Housing Finance Fund remains the country’s biggest mortgage provider and usually offers the lowest interest rates.

    Conclusion:
Very expensive for the most remote town of Iceland.

900,000 kr to own a house? That’s eight months’ rent in reykjavik!

(My 52 m/2 place still costs 110,000 kr a month because I’ve been there over a year. There is much cheaper available now. But still – that’s gotta be worth it to buy?!)

Same size houses are still nearly 20 million in Reykjavik: http://fasteignir.visir.is/leitarnidurstodur/?stage_module_id=21681&stage=1&request=1&reykjavik=1&htype=1&htype=4&htype=5&htype=8&htype=12&size_from=60&size_to=80&price_from=&price_to=&rooms_from=&rooms_to=&street=&description=&B1=

0_0 ~5300 EUR ? That would be great for spending holidays further away from pitiful evilness [initial: I final: y]

But I already wasted my savings [approx. twice] lookin’ for an unfullfied dream (I was not able to remove the past so I couldn’t begin a ‘new life’ – boicott them or they’ll do the same to everyone!)

This is really so “further away” – you should add to the price tag the cost of getting there and getting out, densou. And it might be same amount as the house ;-)

indeed, but did you know how expensive are estates here ? (in the middle of nowhere also)

In Germany they cost a third or a quarter less….

plus we use to travel a lot on our own due to a poor trasportation network compared to other cities (bigger and tinier ones) located on the Northern part of this shameful land.

    so I wouldn’t care about travel expenses :P I know, I am a hopeless guy :D
